Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Raleigh is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Raleigh follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Yesterday I stepped into Yellow Dog Bread Company in Raleigh and was completely charmed by the experience. Though I walked in hoping to find a sandwich for lunch, I was immediately greeted by the rich, comforting aroma of freshly baked bread. The display was stunningβ€”beautiful baguettes, sourdough loaves, homemade scones, and irresistible cinnamon rolls, both frosted and unfrosted. It was a bakery lover’s dream. What truly made the visit unforgettable was the staff. The young ladies behind the counter were kind, sweet, and genuinely attentive. Recognizing I was looking for a lunch option beyond baked goods, they didn’t hesitate to recommend Raleigh Iron Works, a nearby spot serving sandwiches and pizza. Their willingness to helpβ€”even at the expense of a potential saleβ€”spoke volumes about their integrity and hospitality. Thanks to their thoughtful suggestion, I enjoyed a delicious lunch and left with a heart full of appreciation. This small act of kindness transformed a simple errand into a meaningful moment. Yellow Dog Bread Company isn’t just about exceptional bread and pastries (though they clearly excel there)β€”it’s about community, care, and human connection. I’m already looki

Stopped in for coffee and breakfast pastries. Line was manageable for a Saturday Morning around 10am, only took about 10-15 minutes. Everything looks really good but we only tried two items. The raspberry scone was really good, however, the Pan au Chocolat was disappointing. It was not flaky and honestly tasted like a pre-packaged item from a grocery store. I was shocked. Coffee was also good and service was excellent (they asked multiple times about number of shots we wanted, exact water amount, etc...very thoughtful. I would love to go back and try some other items...guessing the pan au chocolate was a one-off or just not good that day for some reason. It said it was made fresh. Anyways, would recommend if you are in the area, and would have given them 5 stars if not for the disappointing pastry.

Yellow Dog has quickly become a favorite of mine over the last few years. I always love walking up to the counter and seeing what new treats they may have. They even do specialty orders around the holidays! Definitely a must visit!

It’s a beautiful bakery, with kind staff and was overall a good experience. In my personal opinion the croissants are the absolute star of the bakery. The pimiento cheese croissant is what southern dreams are made of. The peanut butter cookies were good, as was the baguette (a little more salt and it would have been great, but that’s just being nit-picky). The cinnamon roll was a little on the dry side, maybe could have benefited from a little more glaze, but had a good flavor overall. The shortbread was the heartbreaker for me, but only because I really love shortbread and had high expectations. Shortbread is supposed to be very buttery, and I tasted very little butter. The glaze overpowered it a bit, and I think it messed with the texture as well. If it had been a bit thicker, I doubt the glaze would have affected it as it had. It’s still such a cute cookie, and it’s not the end of the world. Especially with the friendliness of the staff and the variety they had, I know it’s a lot of work and everyone is going to like different things. For me those croissants will be something I dream about, and I can’t say enough good things about. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area

Yellow Dog Bread Company is a FIVE-STAR Raleigh gem on the edge of downtown and the Oakwood neighborhood β€” easy to find at 219 E Franklin Street with free parking. The food, drinks, and friendly staff make it a local favorite. Enjoy indoor or outdoor seating while sipping one of their excellent teas, coffees, or specialty drinks. Freshly baked bread loaves include rustic multigrain, honey wheat, sourdough, French baguette, French batard, and cinnamon raisin swirl. The pastry case is always tempting β€” from banana walnut muffins and cinnamon rolls to sticky buns, apple turnovers, cranberry pecan scones, chocolate chip scones, and the irresistible white cheddar rosemary & sea salt scone. Don’t miss their house-made granolas (dark chocolate cranberry and carrot cake), along with small-batch strawberry jam, creamy pimento cheese, and natural peanut butter. A casual, welcoming atmosphere that truly captures Raleigh's spirit β€” highly recommended!
